It was ‘Jazz Heaven as WYNTON MARSALIS arrived unannounced at the Spice of Life last Wednesday 11th July and played piano and then trumpet on 3 numbers including Duke Ellington’s ‘A Drum Is A Woman’ suite, together with his colleagues from the JLCO – trumpeter TERELL STAFFORD, tenor saxophonist CHAD EBY, bassist RODNEY WHITAKER and drummer JEROME JENNINGS as part of an end of term collaboration between the Barbican, Guildhall and the Spice.
Wynton, Terrell and Chad moved over to the Ronnie Scott’s LATE LATE SHOW afterwards to sit in with ZHENYA STRIGALEV alto sax, DAVE CHAMBERLAIN bass and RODNEY GREEN drums. A fabulous night throughout.
